"I had always that 1984 was about Communism but it's not. It's about totalitarianism which could happen in any government that has too much power".... Chris

I strongly agree with this statement because people with power and wealth can manage to accomplish great things. He mentions that on workdays, in the book, the workers will mouth off for 2 minutes, process called Two Minutes of Hate, about the enemy "Goldstein". This shows how the government or "Big Brother" is constantly hammering its subjects brains to believing one is right and that one is Big Brother.

I really like how Travis Casey states the fact that in modern day, right now, there are 4.2 million surveillance cameras or in ratio 1 camera for 14 people in Britain. I like this comment because it illustrates that Orwell's novel is not to be forgotten and how some aspects in the book relate to real life occurences. He compares the subliminal wrong and/or faulty actions of Big Brother to BBC news because the mainstream media tends to leave out or adjust what we watch to their favor.

I agree with Joyce D. Sinclair when she compares the policies and acts of Bush's Administration to Big Brother in the book. She mentions the Patriot Act of 2001, which allows the government to look in to its citizens sources of communication. Slowly and slowly this world, this government, adds miniscule things that doesn't seem like it matters but can lead to something larger as time progresses. Is the world slowly transforming in to a one ruler government?

Research key theme: 1984

Slowly and slowly this world, this government, adds miniscule things that doesn't seem like it matters but can lead to something larger as time progresses. As everything from science, and technology upgrade we, in a steady manner, start being controlled. We barely notice because thats how the government is structuring our brains. The News, the media, and even some of the music we listen to are aids of this plan. This plan of having everyone controlled by one power, one king, one ruler for total control. George Orwell's novel, 1984, illustrates a world controlled by one and giving us an insight on what the future might be. Everyday I notice this change happening in the world; people are just blind to notice for themselves.

  1. Josh,

Good choice of reviews and commentary here. The current similarities to Orwell's vision are predictable and definitely true.
